Where Duplicate Cleaner keeps its data

Duplicate Cleaner keeps its settings and scan data in a folder of its own:

Platform Folder
Windows C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Duplicate_Cleaner_6\
macOS ~/Library/Application Support/Duplicate_Cleaner_6/
Linux ~/.local/share/Duplicate_Cleaner_6/

It contains:

  • settings.json - the program settings, as on the Settings page.
  • appstate.json - the scans you have open, the window position and so on.
  • DCScan_[date and time].data - one file for each open scan, holding its settings, results and marks. A scan’s file is deleted when you close the scan.
  • ignorelist.txt - the Ignore list.
  • Cache - the hash, image and metadata caches.
  • Virtual - your virtual folders.

Files ending in .bak are the previous copies of the settings files, kept in case a save fails.

Scan data and caches can grow large with big scans. Closing scans you no longer need frees the space their data uses.

Note: The location of this folder can’t currently be changed.

The log file is kept separately - by default Duplicate Cleaner 6 Log.txt in your Documents folder.

Scans you export (.dcscan files) are saved wherever you choose. See Saving, exporting and importing scans.
