Ignore list

This feature requires Duplicate Cleaner Pro.

The Ignore list is a global list of files and folders that are left out of scans. It applies to any scan with Skip files/folders in Ignore list turned on, under Advanced folder search options on the Where to look tab.

This is handy for files and folders you never want to see in your results - program caches, thumbnail files, or a folder of files you know are meant to be duplicated.

Edit the list on the Ignore list tab of the Settings page, or click the ✎ button next to the scan option. The list is plain text, one path per line:

  • A folder ends with \ or /, and everything inside it is skipped.
  • A full path (D:\Photos\template.jpg) matches just that item.
  • A bare name (Thumbs.db, node_modules\) matches it anywhere.
  • * and ? are wildcards: *.tmp, cache*\, D:\Photos\*.ini.
  • Lines starting with # are comments.

Example:

# Windows thumbnail caches
Thumbs.db
desktop.ini
# Build output
node_modules\
*.tmp
D:\Templates\

The buttons above the list:

  • Save - Save your changes. You will be reminded if you leave with unsaved changes.
  • Revert - Throw away unsaved changes.
  • Add folder / Add files - Browse for folders or files to add.
  • Sort - Sort the list.
  • Clear list - Remove every entry.

You can also add files and folders by right-clicking them in the results - see Files list context menu.

  • Write skipped folders to log - Each folder skipped because of the Ignore list is written to the log file.
  • Write skipped files to log - Each file skipped is written to the log.

These are useful for checking that your entries match what you expect.
