Text mode

Text mode matches the text inside documents by similarity. It reads the words in each file and compares them, so the same text will match whatever format it is saved in - a .docx and a .pdf of the same report, or two editions of an e-book.

Supported formats include:

  • Documents - .pdf, .doc, .docx, .rtf
  • Presentations - .pptx
  • E-books - .epub, .mobi / .azw / .azw3, .fb2
  • Plain text - .txt, .html and similar

Note: Text can be held in a file with any extension, so the types listed under All file extensions in Search filters are only a starting point. If you enter your own file filter, it replaces the list - any file it matches is read as text.

Use the slider to set how similar the text must be: Super loose, Loose match, Good match, Very close match, 99% or Exact match. Looser settings find documents with more changes between them, but may also group documents that only share some of their text.

Spaces, tabs and line breaks are ignored when comparing, so text that has only been reformatted still matches.

Upper and lower case letters are treated as the same.
